Is it valuable to actively engage with dissonant ideas? Should we uproot our understanding of how the world works? In this episode, Kris puts the idea of conspiracy theories into practical terms. How do we break out of tautological thinking? Why did the “Richard Gere gerbil” story gain such traction?
What is “Conspiracy Brain”? / Conspiracy as Metaphor / The Council Bluffs Scenario / Visualizing Patterns
Part 2 (available here):
How do our personal associative patterns work? How does swarm intelligence work? Is there any thinking outside of communication? Kris and I continue our deep dive into how patterns and associations work, and investigate a strange synchronicity between Kris’s dreams and David’s real life.

What happened to Malaysia Air Flight 370? We go over the narrative and discuss alternative theories. We go into other plane disappearances, whether or not LOST was a good show, and the limits of human technology. Why don’t we have jetpacks and self-driving cars already? Why can we go to space and have iPhones but we don’t have flying motorcycles?
The Official Consensus on MH370 / Oblique Directions and Spiral Possibilities / Don Lemon’s Black Hole Theory / Was LOST a Good Show? / Where’s the Good Tech?
Part 2: The Old Man Outside the Weather Station
What do you do when it’s raining outside and the weather app tells you it’s sunny? Is it possible to collage together pieces of different conspiracy theories to create a dada/surrealist interpretation that defies all reason? How would that effect our approach to narrative? Can we implement a trickster spirit to how we interface with the presentation of reality?
The Uncertainty of Technological Time / The Value of Argumentation / How to Break Down Narratives

On this episode, Kris and I go back and forth on the issue of licensing potential parents. Does the world have enough space for more people? What is the value of freedom in a world that requires sacrifice?
Population Problem or Allocation Problem?/ Responsibility to Culture / Personal Authoritarianism
On this episode, Kris gives one of the best articulations of how memory actually works, relates a dream in which he is visited by gods with sea turtle heads, and we decide to stop equivocating so much with our pronouncements.

On Part 1 of this episode, Kris and I begin to construct a framework for how to raise a child, with a focus on “how” to live rather than “what to achieve.” We discuss the influence of capitalism and economic prosperity on prior generations’ priorities.
On Part 2, we discuss characters as an antidote to individuality, integrating yourself with your tools, and how not all questions are answered with words. Have you ever received an answer to a problem with a smell?
You can subscribe to Part 2 here, which includes all the show notes!

In Part 1 of this episode, Kris and I discuss the invention of childhood from the perspective of time and sexuality. Is being a child denoted strictly by preparing for adulthood? Is adulthood a prison?
In Part 2 we continue our discussion of archetypes and characters, with a deep dive into the quantum mechanics of the tarot and the aesthetic quality of nostalgia. Are we touching parallel worlds?
Kris also has a great recounting of his recent dream, which connects with a formative moment from my past.

This might be one of the most involved episodes we've recorded. We start out with a Gus Update, then move into discussions of lost civilizations, similarities in different mythologies, indecipherable languages, and dreams of green darkness.
Then, in part 2, we begin an incredibly ambitious and free-ranging conversation about language and the world of archetypes, how they might manifest both in characters and in human beings, and what a "choral reef" of lesser gods might look like. How might these beings interact through art?
This is pretty dense stuff, and one of my favorite conversations Kris and I have had so far. We're getting somewhere here, and really running up against the barriers of the language we have to describe it.

On this episode we begin with a great piece of listener mail that asks the question: how does one avoid feeling like a ghost in the world? This leads to a discussion of Rilke’s poem “Turning-Point.”
On the Patreon-exclusive second half, Kris and I elaborate on the Crystal Radio / Pirate Radio / Ghost Radio theory of Culture as a Force / Entity with Language as its medium. Why are eccentrics so important? How do we move on from expertisism? And how to we interact with the maps of our world to separate the signal from the noise?
Finding Better Ghosts / The Origin of Idioms / 3-Foot Elvis
Culture as Energy Field / Animism to Religion to Science to Scientism / Mutual Exploration / Living in Territory, Speaking with Maps
